My father abducted after release: Moonis Elahi

Elahi rearrested under Maintenance of Public Order by Islamabad police.

LAHORE: PTI leader and former federal minister Moonis Elahi has said his father Chaudhry Parvez Elahi was “abducted” from outside the latter’s residence in Lahore on Friday, hours after he was released in a graft case.

Taking to social media platform X (erstwhile Twitter), Moonis said: “After the high court’s orders and on the judge’s instructions police including court security were taking my father home. “As the car entered our street, it was stopped and he was abducted.”

He added that if courts were going to be “ridiculed like this maybe they should officially declare it”.

The senior politician was rearrested under 3-MPO (Maintenance of Public Order) by the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police shortly after being released by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), according to sources.  He would be put under house arrest in Adiala jail for the next 15 days.

It may be noted that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested Elahi over failing to provide information to the accountability bureau in assets beyond the means case against him, his son Monis Elahi and other family members.

NAB sources have revealed that an inquiry has also been initiated against Moonis Elahi into the excessive assets case.

A team from NAB Lahore chapter took former CM Pervaiz Elahi from Adiala Jail to appear before the session court in Rawalpindi for transit remand.
