My father being treated like a terrorist, says Qureshi’s daughter

Prosecution says PTI leader has been nominated in 12 other cases and is to be investigated.

RAWALPINDI: PTI leader and former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has been arrested in 12 other cases and the prosecution has sought his custody till January 2.

However, court rejected the plea and sent the PTI leader on judicial remand in the May 9 case.

Earlier today, Qureshi was brought to court in Rawalpindi a day after he was taken into custody by Punjab police even after being granted bail by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

He was brought to the court in an armed personnel carrier (APC) surrounded by heavy contingent of police.

In the court of a judicial magistrate, Qureshi was presented handcuffed. He told the court that he has been arrested in a fake case. On May 9, he added, he was not in Rawalpindi and was in Karachi.

On the intervention of his lawyer during the hearing, the judge ordered removal of his handcuffs.

Qureshi also complained that he was mentally and physically tortured by the police and not provided with medical care.

The prosecution sought Qureshi’s physical custody in the May 9 GHQ attack and 12 other cases, including army museum attack, metro station torching cases.

Later, his daughter remarked that her father was being treated like a terrorist. She said despite being granted bail by the country’s top court, police arrested him again and manhandled him too. The incident was reported widely but the Election Commission of Pakistan did not bother to take notice, she added.

Police said Qureshi was already booked in the May 9 arson attack case.

Qureshi earlier said he was not involved in any case but was being targeted as a political victimization.

The police said that the PTI leader was to be questioned in connection with the case. The RA Bazar police arrested him in connection with the May 9 and 10 cases for 15 days.
