ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly was briefed today on several major government initiatives, including the National Wheat Policy 2026-30, measures to support Thalassemia patients, and efforts to combat illegal immigration.
Parliamentary Secretary Farah Naz told the house during question hour that the wheat policy, prepared in consultation with the provinces, will be submitted to the cabinet for approval before the upcoming budget. She added that the government’s action plan for the next fiscal year focuses on a comprehensive agricultural roadmap, including mechanization and the establishment of the National Agri Trade and Food Safety Authority to boost exports.
Farah Naz further said that a National Seed Development and Regulatory Authority has been established to strengthen and modernize the seed sector by improving regulations and promoting high-yield, climate-resilient crop varieties.
Parliamentary Secretary for National Health Services Nelson Azeem highlighted that dedicated treatment facilities are being provided to Thalassemia patients in hospitals, including safe blood transfusion services.
Responding to a calling attention notice, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhary said the government is implementing a zero-tolerance policy on illegal immigration. He stated that since 2023, 3,158 agents have been arrested, and action has also been taken against FIA officials involved in these crimes. He added that Pakistan’s efforts against illegal immigration have been acknowledged by the international community.
Regarding Pakistanis detained in Cambodia due to fraudulent overseas employment schemes, the Minister of State for Interior confirmed that several have been successfully repatriated.
