Speaker suspends surgeant-at-arms, four security officials of NA

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq says he considers himself unlucky for being in chair when parliament was attacked twice.

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Wednesday suspended the sergeant at arms and four security officials of Parliament House for lapse of security in connection with the storming of the building by officials of the police and other law enforcement agencies.

On September 10, police and other law enforcement agencies officials entered the Parliament House and arrested scores of lawmakers belonging to the TPTI on the charge of violating the law while holding a public gathering in Islamabad.

The issue was taken up during the session of the house on Tuesday evening and the speaker told the house that he would take action after watching CCTV footages of the building.

Today the speaker of the national assembly stated that he had suspended the surgeon at arms along with four other security officials for four months after watching the CCTV footages. He said that the security officials had failed to stop the agencies personal from entering the building without permission.

The speaker also said that he considered himself very unfortunate because it was the second such incident that the sanctity of the parliament House had been violated by security officials when he was in the chair.

He said that in 2014 he was also the speaker of the national assembly when the PTI and its “cousins” stormed the parliament house and violated its sanctity.
