ISLAMABAD: The nation on Sunday paid glowing tribute to the police officers and officials who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
The tribute was paid on National Police Martyrs Day observed on August 4th every year.
In this regard, functions were held in police lines headquarters in different cities which among others were also attended by families of the police martyrs.
In their separate messages on the occasion, President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and chief ministers of provinces highlighted the sacrifices of the police in the war on terror.
They said that the police officers and officials rendered sacrifices of their lives for the safety and security of the nation. The police martyrs are pride of the nation and the country will always remain indebted to them.
The speakers at the martyrs day functions said that the government would make all-out efforts for the welfare of the families of the martyrs. The nation is also indebted to the families and they must be assured that the blood of their loved ones would not go to waste.
The objective of observing the day was also to assure the bereaved families that the police and the government would always keep them in high esteem and work for their welfare including proper education of the children of the martyrs.
