RAWALPINDI: Today marks the 14th anniversary of the tragic Giari Sector incident at the Siachen front, where 129 soldiers of the Pakistan Army laid down their lives in the line of duty.

On April 7, 2012, a catastrophic avalanche struck the battalion headquarters stationed in one of the world’s highest and most challenging military zones. The force of the snow buried the entire facility, burying all the personnel stationed there.

Despite the extreme conditions and the daunting scale of the disaster, the Engineers Corps of the Pakistan Army took on the mission to retrieve the bodies, demonstrating unmatched bravery and determination. Even international rescue teams deemed the operation nearly impossible.

Through tireless efforts, strategic planning, and immense courage, Pakistani officers and soldiers managed to carry out the complex mission successfully.

In memory of the valiant soldiers, a memorial has been established at the Siachen front, serving as a lasting tribute to their sacrifices.

On this solemn day, the nation once again honors the 129 soldiers of the Giari Sector, remembering their dedication and the ultimate sacrifice they made for Pakistan.
