National hockey team awarded Rs30m by Punjab govt

Punjab chief minister Maryam Nawaz says her govt will be supporting the team to help it regain past glory.

LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif showered praise on the national hockey team for its performance in the recently held Azlan Shah cup tournament and awarded it with Ra30 million cheque.

The team players met the chief minister here and its captain Imad Butt expressed the hope that with government patronage the team would regain its past glory. Pakistan lost the final match of Azlan Shah hockey tournament to Japan after a penalty stroke.

Talking to the national hockey team players, the chief minister assured them of full support for the betterment of hockey.

She praised the hockey players for reviving the national game. She directed the Provincial Minister for Sports Faisal Ayub to maintain contact with the players for the promotion of hockey in the province.

She emphasized the need for collective efforts to promote sports at the grassroots level.

Maryam Nawaz expressed hope that the national team will shine brighter in the future.
