Nawaz expected to be back home in five weeks

The e-prime minister will leave Saudi Arabia for Dubai and then to London in next few days before his return to Pakistan.

LAHORE: While the coalition government is all set to launch preparations for the next general elections and the tenure of the National Assembly is expiring on Aug 14, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif is expected to be back in Pakistan by end of August this year.

According to media reports, Nawaz will leave Saudi Arabia for Dubai and then to London in the next few days. He is expected to depart for Pakistan after staying in London for five to six weeks.

Meanwhile, the former prime minister has held meetings with the royal family in Saudi Arabia before making preparations for his return to Pakistan. He is expected to have an important role in the next setup.

Nawaz, who was serving a prison sentence for corruption, had left Pakistan to receive medical treatment in London in 2019.

He was prime minister from 1990 to 1993, then again from 1997 to 1999, and finally from 2013 to 2017.  In 2018, following the Panama Papers leak, he was found guilty of corruption, relating to his family’s ownership of upmarket London apartments.
