LAHORE: PML-N supremo and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday accused his jailed arch rival Imran Khan of backstabbing him in 2013 by joining hands with Tahirul Qadri and Zahirul Islam.
Addressing a meeting of the PML-N central working committee, he said that soon after taking over after the 2013 elections, he visited Imran Khan at his Banigala residence and told him that rigging elections by him were not true and both the PML-N and PTI agreed on a working relationship for the development of the country.
However, he said, soon afterwards Imran proceeded to London where he hatched a conspiracy in connivance with Tahirul Qadri and Zahirul Islam. On his return from London, protests were started against the PML-N government.
Nawaz Sharif said that had he wanted the PTI could not have formed a government in KP in 2013. He said he asked the JUI-F chief to allow the largest majority PTI to form its government in the province.
Nawaz said his cabinet members had called for police force against the protests but he had told them to desist. Despite this, Nawaz said his government managed to secure the historic China Pakistan Economic Corridor project.
He regretted that when he was removed from the slot of the prime minister, the nation remained silent. “How three persons could dismiss the elected prime minister of 250 million people,” he asked, adding that he was removed from power for not taking 10,000 dirham salary from his son.
“Not only this, I was also removed from the presidentship of the PML-N. I have an audio recording of former chief justice of Pakistan in which he says that Nawaz Sharif has to be removed and Imran has to be installed as prime minister.”
