KATHMANDU: A Nepali aircraft caught fire and crashed while taking off from Kathmandu airport in Nepal on Wednesday, killing 18 of the 19 people on board.
The Saurya Airlines aircraft carrying 19 passengers and the crew members was to fly to Pokhara when it crashed due to slippery surface the ground.
Thick smoke was seen bellowing from the aircraft in video footage on social media and officials said five dead bodies had been recovered.
According to the reports, 18 of the passengers died in the crash while the pilot was rescued and shifted to hospital where his condition was stated to be critical.
Authorities closed the airport for all international flights and launched an inquiry into the actual cause of the incident.
