New Authority Launched to Ensure Food, Drug Safety in Punjab

LAHORE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif officially inaugurated the Punjab Agriculture, Food and Drug Authority (PAFDA) in Lahore.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and federal and provincial ministers were also present. The cutting-edge facility aims to revolutionize the safety and quality standards of food, drugs, and other essential products in the region.

In his address, Prime Minister Sharif praised the establishment of the institution, which is equipped with advanced technology designed to curb adulteration and contamination. He underscored the critical role the authority will play in ensuring food security and maintaining hygienic standards, stressing that the initiative was both timely and essential.

He also applauded Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for her leadership in setting up this pivotal institution, noting that it would provide invaluable services not only to Punjab but across the entire nation.

Speaking at the event, Maryam Nawaz highlighted the authority’s current capabilities, noting that PAFDA already operates 142 machines, with plans to add 565 more in the near future. She also revealed that the authority now covers 38 districts and employs 232 scientists who are dedicated to testing a broad range of products, from pesticides to animal feed.
