ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports has announced new details about Pakistan’s redesigned passport, highlighting several distinctive updates and enhanced security features.
According to the department’s clarification, the new passport will now include both the father’s and mother’s names, marking a major step toward inclusivity and modernization. Officials said that this change aligns with global standards and aims to make identification more comprehensive.
In addition to the name field update, the visa pages will showcase images of historical landmarks from Pakistan’s provinces, giving the document a more culturally representative design.
The Pakistan Security Printing Corporation has already begun printing the new passport booklets after approval from the Ministry of Interior.
Authorities emphasized that while the layout and design have been updated, there will be no changes to the passport’s validity periods or existing fee structure.
The current fee schedule remains the same. A five-year passport with 36 pages costs Rs 4,500, while a ten-year passport of the same size costs Rs 6,700. For urgent issuance, the fee is Rs 7,500 for a five-year passport and Rs 11,200 for a ten-year passport.
The department confirmed that the passport’s green color scheme will remain, but with a refreshed look to make it more visually appealing and modern.
Officials added that the modernization drive reflects Pakistan’s efforts to harmonize its travel documents with international standards of security and design.
