New Security Features introduced to Prevent Passport Forgery

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced significant measures to curb passport forgery by introducing new security features.

Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi revealed the move during his visit to the Beijing Public Security Passport Bureau in China, where Director General Sun Yu welcomed him, according to a statement issued here.

Minister Naqvi toured various sections of the bureau and received a detailed briefing on China’s passport and immigration policies. He was briefed on the entire process, from application to the printing and issuance of passports. Minister Naqvi praised China’s effective immigration system and noted that Pakistan is also working on developing a fast and comprehensive system for passports and immigration.

The minister added that Pakistan was planning to introduce a modern immigration system, modeled after Beijing’s highly efficient approach. This system will enhance the passport issuance process and strengthen security measures to prevent forgery.

In a separate report, the Ministry of Interior also shared the annual performance report of the Directorate of Passport and Immigration for the year 2025. Following directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Minister Naqvi, the year 2025 has been declared a year of revolutionary measures.

Thanks to the installation of modern printers, the long-standing backlog in passport issuance has been permanently addressed. According to the report, a record 5.57 million passports were issued in 2025, marking the highest number in history. Of these, 3.28 million were issued under the normal category, 1.84 million under the urgent category, and 276,789 under the fast-track category.
