Hospital sources confirmed that the infant had been receiving treatment at the PIMS Children’s Hospital and was placed on a ventilator. She died during the previous night, according to the sources.
The newborn was the only baby among those in the nursery to survive the August 26 fire. Nurse Razia Noorain had risked her life to enter the nursery and rescue the infant from the blaze.
In recognition of her bravery, President Asif Ali Zardari had approved the Tamgha-i-Shujaat for Nurse Razia Noorain for saving the newborn during the incident.
The nurse had managed to bring the baby out of the nursery alive despite the intense fire, demonstrating exceptional courage during the emergency.
The newborn’s death comes weeks after she was rescued from the devastating PIMS nursery fire.
