The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, according to a statement issued on Wednesday.
Under the arrangement, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will exercise the chief minister’s powers relating to routine administrative affairs during the emergency period. The governor will also submit a monthly review report to the federal government detailing the exercise of these powers.
The federal cabinet said the decision was aimed at ensuring the smooth handling of administrative matters and improving governance in the province.
It also expressed hope that the KP Advisory Council, under the governor’s leadership, would take effective measures for public welfare, prosperity and the restoration of peace and order.
The approval follows the imposition of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 11, 2026.
