Armstrong began his wrestling career in 1963 and remained associated with the sport for more than three decades. During his career, he competed for several wrestling promotions, including the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), as well as organisations in Japan, the American Wrestling Association (AWA) and the Universal Wrestling Federation (UWF).

After retiring from wrestling, Armstrong ventured into acting and appeared in several films during the 1980s.

He had reportedly been suffering from serious health problems in recent years. One of his legs had been amputated, and he was also undergoing dialysis.

Krywale travelled to Los Angeles to visit Armstrong during his final days. She said that despite his severe illness, he had retained his sense of humour.

According to Krywale, Armstrong was also a close friend of wrestler Rocky Johnson, the father of Hollywood star and former wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The two wrestlers often shared a room while travelling for wrestling events, and Armstrong had known The Rock since his childhood.
