ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Supra announced the verdict at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. The court also imposed fines on both defendants under three separate legal provisions.

The charges were formally framed against Mazari and Chattha on October 7. The court had appointed state counsel Atif Mahmood, who cross-examined the prosecution witnesses during the trial.

The prosecution presented seven witnesses in total.

The case against Mazari and Chattha was registered on October 25, 2024.

In their separate statements earlier, Imaan and Chattha said the evidence presented during their trial implicated the prosecution witnesses, police and state rather than themselves, according to their separate statements published earlier.

Describing themselves as prisoners of conscience, they alleged violations of their fair trial and due process rights. Mazari said they had challenged the jail trial before the Islamabad High Court and Supreme Court, adding that being kept in a cage prevented effective communication with their lawyers and the court.

The couple also said they had spent more than nine months in custody and received 17-year prison sentences a day after their arrest on January 23.
