Welcoming the adoption, Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Syed Haider Shah, described the development as an important contribution to the Security Council's efforts to promote international peace and security.

In a press stakeout following the adoption, Ambassador Shah thanked all Council members for their constructive engagement and cooperation throughout the process.

He stressed that diplomacy must not end when hostilities begin; rather, it becomes even more indispensable as conflicts intensify and human suffering mounts.

The Pakistani envoy said the Presidential Statement builds upon Security Council Resolution 2788, unanimously adopted during Pakistan's Council presidency in July 2025, and advances the Council's work by focusing on sustaining diplomatic engagement once hostilities have commenced.

He highlighted the importance of good offices, open channels of communication and continued dialogue in creating pathways from confrontation towards de-escalation and peaceful settlement.

Ambassador Shah noted that while the Security Council had addressed diplomatic efforts in various individual conflict situations, the newly adopted statement brings these experiences together within a focused thematic framework.

The statement reaffirms diplomacy as an active instrument for containing escalation, maintaining communication channels, facilitating safe and unhindered humanitarian assistance, promoting cessations of hostilities and ceasefires, and creating conditions conducive to lasting political settlements.

He said the adoption provides a collective political reference point to guide and encourage diplomatic efforts in ongoing and future conflict situations, while bringing greater focus and coherence to the Council's thematic work.

Ambassador Shah reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to sustaining diplomatic bridges and pursuing peace, emphasizing that the initiative reflects the country's enduring commitment to multilateralism, dialogue, diplomacy and the peaceful settlement of disputes.

He added that Pakistan would continue to contribute constructively to the Security Council's efforts to maintain international peace and security.
