According to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), seven of the nine cases have been reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while the remaining two were detected in Sindh.

The NEOC said an anti-polio vaccination campaign is currently underway in 97 selected districts across the country, including Khyber District.

Under the campaign, health authorities aim to administer polio drops to more than 24 million children under the age of five.

Pakistan and Afghanistan are conducting anti-polio vaccination campaigns simultaneously as part of efforts to prevent the spread of the virus.

The NEOC stressed that polio is an incurable disease but can be prevented through vaccination, protecting children from lifelong disability.

It urged parents to ensure that all children under five receive polio drops during the campaign and complete their routine immunisation schedules on time.

The centre also called on all segments of society to support national efforts to eliminate polio from the country.
