Speaking at the launch of the book Ukraine War Beyond the Headlines at the Russian Embassy in Islamabad, Khorev said Russia appreciated Pakistan’s balanced approach to the Ukraine conflict and its commitment to dialogue.
He expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s leadership for adopting what he described as a “positive neutrality” approach, adding that Moscow valued Islamabad’s independent assessment of international developments and its understanding of the importance of negotiations.
The Russian ambassador said Moscow remained willing to work with Pakistan as a regional partner and reliable supplier of energy, agricultural products and fertilisers.
Referring to the possibility of mediation in the Ukraine conflict, Khorev said Russia would consider a Pakistani proposal, similar to initiatives from other friendly countries, including Brazil and China.
He also said Russia could facilitate dialogue between Pakistan and Afghanistan if both sides expressed their willingness to participate.
Earlier, speakers at the book launch rejected the perception that Pakistan was exclusively aligned with the United States and the West. They recalled that Pakistan had maintained ties with China during the height of the Cold War in the 1960s, despite strong opposition to Beijing from Washington and Western countries.
The speakers said Pakistan’s role as a mediator and facilitator was recognised internationally. They also criticised what they described as double standards in US and Western approaches towards Russia, warning that the war in Europe and the resulting energy crisis could have direct consequences for Asia and Africa.
Guests attending the launch received complimentary copies of the book and were presented with honours at the event.
