MACEDONIA: A fire at a nightclub in a village in North Macedonia has killed around 60 people and injured more than 150, authorities said.
According to foreign media reports, North Macedonia’s interior minister told a press conference that the fire occurred during a concert at a nightclub in the city of Kočani, 100 km from the capital Skopje.
According to the interior minister, 35 of those killed in the nightclub fire had been identified, most of the dead are from local areas. The minister said some youths set off fireworks that caused the roof to catch fire.
Police said further investigation was underway and four people had been arrested. North Macedonia’s Prime Minister Hristijan Mikoski said the loss of so many young lives was immeasurable.
