QUETTA: Armed men killed nine bus passengers going to Lahore from Qalat, Mastung and Loralai in Balochistan.
Police and security officials said terrorists stopped buses traveling from Quetta to Lahore, identified nine passengers, kidnapped them, and killed them in Zhob.
According to Zhob Assistant Commissioner Naveed Alam, the passengers were taken off the buses after being identified. Their bodies were later moved to Rakni Hospital.
The victims were from different parts of Punjab, including Attock, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Khanewal and Dunyapur.
Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind condemned the incident and said terrorists are targeting innocent people.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also strongly condemned the attack, saying the blood of innocent people will be avenged and terrorism will be eliminated.
Security forces have launched search operations in the area to find the attackers. Officials said they are increasing patrols on highways and checking buses to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Many people across the country have expressed grief and anger over the killings. Human rights groups have also called for better protection of travelers and stronger action against those involved in such violence.
