PARAMARIBO: A stabbing incident in Suriname located in South America has left nine people dead, including five children, while two others were injured, according to international media reports.
The attack occurred in the Commewijne district, approximately 25 kilometers east of the capital city, Paramaribo. Media reports, citing neighbors of the suspect, said the assailant had a heated phone argument with his wife before allegedly attacking his children with a knife in a fit of rage.
Authorities said that among those killed were the suspect’s children as well as neighbors who tried to intervene and save them. When police arrived at the scene, the suspect attempted to attack law enforcement officers as well.
Police officials stated that officers shot the suspect in the leg to stop him, after which he was taken into custody and shifted to a hospital for treatment.
