KARACHI: Investigation agencies in Pakistan have found no criminal record of a man who has been arrested in the United States of America on the charge of planning to assassinate a politician and some top government officials.
However, it has emerged that the arrested man identified as Asif Merchant had been a frequent visitor to Iran. The investigation agencies have set that Asif merchant is a resident of Karachi we are there have been no criminal cases registered against him in any police station.
Moreover, Asif Merchant has been found not affiliated with any political party in the past. Asif Merchant was born in Karachi on May 18, 1978 and is married with two children.
According to the record of Federal Board of Revenue, the suspect arrested in the US is an active tax filer in Pakistan and has a master degree obtained from a private university in Karachi.
It has also be learnt that Asif virgin travel to Iran and back to Pakistan on several occasion on three passports between 2017 till 2024.
He had last returned from Iran on 8 April this year and after three days stay in Karachi he left for the United States via Turkey. The suspect was arrested in the US before flying out of the country on July 12.
