KOHAT: Sectarian clashes between two groups in Kurram that started a few days ago have left over 20 people dead and scores of others injured.
Local police and administration have been unable to control the situation and bring the warring groups to the negotiation table. As a result, normal life has badly been disrupted and all markets, offices and educational institutions remain closed.
The clashes erupted after a controversial video went viral on social media. Although the contents of the video were strongly condemned by both sides, sporadic violence erupted in the area.
Police in the area said that the rival groups were using sophisticated arms and ammunition. The local administration tried to involve elders and notables from other areas to broker a deal and end the clashes but so far there has not been any breakthrough.
The Kurram area has long been a hotbed of sectarian clashes and violence with frequent armed clashes by rival groups. There has been no permanennt solution to the issue to maintain peace and sectarian harmony in the area.
