MIRPURKHAS: An anti-terrorism court in Mirpurkhas has issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of six senior police officers in the murder case of a doctor who was killed by police in a fake encounter case.
Dr Shahnawaz was earlier accused of blasphemy by local people and booked in a blasphemy case and arrested by the police in Mirpurkhas, Sindh. He was later killed by the police. The police claimed that the suspect opened fire on police and died in a shoot-out. The doctor was killed in the fake encounter by police on September 19 at Sindhri town of Mirpurkhas.
The Anti-Terrorism Court ordered the Federal Investigation Agency to arrest the former DIG of Mirpurkhas, the SSP and four other police officers who have gone into hiding and present them in the court on January 8. The High Court of Sindh has already ordered the inclusion of the names of the doctors in the exit control list.
The FIA on the occasion also presented in the court a report of the board of doctors prepared after the dead body of the doctor was exhumed on the direction of the court. The report showed marks of torture on the body of the victim.
