The meeting was attended by representatives and delegations from OIC member states, who expressed serious concern over the continuing situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and called for coordinated international efforts to protect the rights of the Palestinian people.
The comprehensive resolution urged the international community and OIC member states to take legal, political and diplomatic measures to counter what it described as Israel’s expansionist agenda and ongoing actions against the Palestinian population.
The participants called for stronger diplomatic and political efforts to prevent further violations of Palestinian rights and stressed the need for the international community to play an effective role in addressing the situation.
Speaking at the meeting, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Syed Fawad Sher called on the OIC to further intensify its efforts for the realization of the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
He emphasized the importance of continued support for the legitimate aspirations of the people of Kashmir and urged the Islamic bloc to strengthen its diplomatic efforts on the issue.
The meeting also saw an important development within the organization as former Mauritanian Foreign Minister Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed was elected as the new Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
The appointment is expected to provide new leadership to the organization as it continues to address major political, security and humanitarian challenges facing the Muslim world.
The Jeddah meeting also highlighted the need for greater coordination among OIC member states in responding to developments in Palestine and other regional issues.
The adoption of the resolution reflects the member states’ collective position against policies that they say undermine Palestinian territorial rights, security and prospects for a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
The participating countries called for sustained diplomatic engagement, international legal measures and political pressure to prevent further deterioration of the situation and to support efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
