One prisoner dies, two injured in attack by other inmate

Police say incident occurred in mental ward where a prisoner attacked others in their sleep.

RAWALPINDI: A prisoner held in the mental ward of the Adiala Jail killed another inmate and injured two others on Thursday, jail and police authorities said.

They said prisoner Ahsan used a water mug to take out a brick from the wall of Cell No 8 and attacked other prisoners in their sleep.  As a result, prisoners Ejaz Rabbani, Sheraz and Hamad Ali sustained injuries and were shifted to PIMS hospital in Islamabad where Ejaz later died.

The inspector general of prisons has ordered an inquiry after which the DIG prisons Rawalpindi launched an investigation.
