OpenAI Plans to Double Workforce by End of 2026
ISLAMABAD: OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT, has announced plans to double its workforce by the end of this year, aiming to expand its employee count to around 8,000.
Currently, the company employs approximately 4,500 people, and this expansion is part of its strategy to maintain its lead in the rapidly growing global artificial intelligence sector.
Most of the new hiring will take place in product development, engineering, research, and sales. In addition, OpenAI plans to recruit experts for a “technical ambassadorship” program to help businesses better understand and utilize its AI tools.
The company’s latest funding round has reportedly valued it at around $840 billion, with major technology firms and SoftBank participating in an investment round worth $110 billion. Financial analysts believe that this aggressive hiring and expansion strategy could significantly influence the company’s direction and how it delivers services in the market.
According to reports, OpenAI issued an internal “code red” in December 2025 in response to competition from Google’s Gemini 3 model. As a result, the company paused less critical projects and redirected its teams to focus on accelerating core product development.
