Opposition members boycott GB assembly’s budget session

GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan government presented the annual budget in the legislative assembly during which opposition members boycotted the session.

The budget was presented in the assembly by finance minister Muhammad Ismail. The minister announced an increase of 25 percent in the salaries of government employees in grade 1 to 16 and 20pc in the salaries of employees in grade 17 to 22.

An amount of 19.7 billion rupees was allocated for wheat subsidy in the region. Moreover, 130 million rupees have been set aside to meet with the aftermath of natural disasters.

As the budget session started, the opposition members stood on their seats and started chanted slogans. They tore the copies of the budget and later staged a walk out.
