LAHORE: A key aid to Al Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden has been arrested by the Counter Terrorism Department of Punjab from a village located in the Gujrat district of Punjab.
The CTD announced the arrest of Aminul Haq from Sarai Alamgir located in Gujrat. The CTD said that the arrest was made in an operation conducted by the force on the basis of intelligence reports.
Haq remained associated with Al Qaeda and was among its top fighters. He was also responsible for providing security to Osama bi Laden.
After US forces killed Osama in an operation on May 2, 2011, in Abbottabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Haq had gone into hiding. The United Nations had included his name in a list of most wanted terrorists.
The CTD said that Haq has been shifted to an undisclosed place for an investigation. He can provide valuable information about the presence and activities of the remnants of the network in the country.
CTD DIG Usman Gondal told a press conference that Haq had sneaked into Pakistan from Afghanistan recently. He said the terrorist was arrested in Pakistan in 2007 and sentenced to four years in jail. In 2021, he was seen in Afghanistan.
