Over 10 die, hundreds hospitalized as Karachi hit by heatwave

KARACHI: Over 10 people have died of heatwave and hundreds of others were hospitalized as mercury hovered over 43 degrees Celsius in Karachi.

Health practitioners have advised citizens to adopt precautionary measures and avoid unnecessary travel in the sun especially in daytime.

Officials in different hospitals said that the number of people affected by the heatwave coming to the emergency units had increased manifold.

Eight people died at Civil Hospital where over 50 others were treated for dehydration.

Doctors also said that in heatwave the chances of infection also increased and citizens should avoid eating food from outside.

The Met Office said that Karachi and other parts of Sindh were under the grip of hot and moisture laden winds and the weather may remain hot for a few more days.
