Over 14kg heroin recovered from unclaimed parcel at airport

Parcel landed at Karachi airport after authorities in Bahrain returned it to Afghanistan upon non receipt.

KARACHI: Customs intelligence department officials have recovered 14.5 kilograms of ice heroin from a parcel that landed at the airport after authorities in Bahrain returned it without opening upon non-receipt by an Afghan national to whom it had been sent from Afghanistan.

The officials said the parcel containing the high quality ice heroin was dispatched by one Rafi in Mazar-e-Sharif to Gulbaz Khan in Bahrain. The contraband packed in a wooden crate was not received by Gulbaz Khan fearing he might be arrested. The authorities in Bahrain then returned the unclaimed parcel in accordance with international rules.

The parcel after landing at the Karachi airport was to be sent back to Afghanistan by road. However, on suspicion, the customs authorities decided to open it. After opening the carton, the officials found the ice heroin worth about Rs300 million in the international market.

The officials at the airport said that a case has been registered and an investigation launched into the case.
