LAHORE: Over 200 officers and officials of Punjab police have been found to be abettor of drug mafias in the province.
A report prepared by the surveillance branch of the police containing the names of 234 police officers and officials in 10 districts of Punjab has been sent to higher authorities for action.
According to the report, 30 officials of the police in Lahore were found to be hands in glove with the drug mafias and there were already 35 cases registered against them.
Similarly, 62 police officials have been found as abettors of drug peddlers in Faisalabad, and most of them were sub-inspectors and deployed in different police stations of the city.
The police officials involved in such activities also included constables, head constables and drivers and two of them were already in jail for their illegal acts. The report also contained details about the gangs involved in drug trafficking including heroin, charas, opium and ice crystal powder.
