ISLAMABAD: The capital territory police launched a crackdown last night and detained over 300 workers and supporters of PTI ahead of the party’s protest in Islamabad on Sunday.
Police sources said that hundreds of PTI workers had sneaked into the federal capital a day or two before the protest as the government blocked roads with containers to stop the protesters on November 24th.
According to media reports, the police had prepared a list of over 1500 PTI workers and leaders in Islamabad and handed it over to different police stations with directions to detain them.
Moreover, three cases were registered in different police stations of Islamabad on November 23 after they blocked roads abd pelted vehicles with stones.
The interior minister Mohsin Naqvi had already directed the Islamabad police to arrest anyone who comes to Islamabad to take part in the protest on November 24th.
Though there were reports that the PTI may cancel the protest as talks were going on, the chairman of the party Gohar Ali Khan on Saturday evening ruled it out and said that such a decision could be taken only by the jailed party founder Imran Khan.
