LAHORE: The Utility Stores Corporation of Pakistan has terminated the services of more than 3,500 contract employees across the country, sparking outrage among workers who have now announced protest demonstrations.
According to Arif Shah, Secretary General of the All Pakistan Workers Alliance (Utility Stores), regional managers have been issued official termination letters. He stated that regional managers have been granted the authority to dismiss contract employees from Grade 1 to 13.
The terminated employees have condemned the move as unjust and have announced a protest to be held at Scheme Morr in Lahore. The Utility Stores Union claims that the dismissals are illegal as they defy a stay order issued by the Lahore High Court.
Union representatives have further announced that they will file a contempt of court petition on Monday, seeking justice for the affected employees.
