Over 800 PTI protesters arrested by Punjab police

Police spokesperson says that over 400 people rounded up grom Chungi No 26 and surrounding areas.

RAWALPINDI: Punjab police have arrested over 800 workers of the PTI after they fled from Islamabad following a grand operation there late on Tuesday night.

Around 400 protesters were rounded up from Chungi No 26 and surrounding areas and shifted to different police stations in Rawalpindi, a spokesperson for the Punjab police said on Wednesday morning. He said that over 800 workers and supporters of the PTI had been arrested across Punjab since the party launched the protest.

The police claimed that weapons and ammunition along with tear gas shells and batons had been recovered from the protesters.

Legal action will be initiated against the arrested people who were involved in attacking law enforcement agencies personnel, violence and damaging public snd private properties, the police spokesperson added.
