Over 50 Missing After Boat Capsizes in Nigeria’s Sokoto State

SOKOTO: At least 50 people are reported missing after a boat capsized in Sokoto, a northwestern state of Nigeria.

According to foreign media reports, the boat was carrying more than 50 passengers at the time of the accident.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) of Nigeria confirmed via a social media statement that 10 passengers have been rescued so far. Local media reports indicate that the boat was overloaded, which likely caused the accident.

Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution when using waterways and stressed the importance of adhering to safety regulations. NEMA and local rescue teams are coordinating efforts to search for the missing passengers, using boats and other emergency resources.
