ISLAMABAD: Over 500 social media accounts have been found involved in the smear character assassination campaign against senior judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
According to a senior official of the Federal Investigation Agency, these social media accounts were detected by a joint investigation team formed on January 16 on the direction of the federal government.
He said legal action would be initiated against all those who were involved in tarnishing the image of the judges and the superior judiciary.
The campaign was launched soon after a three-member bench of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa maintained the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan to take back bat as the election symbol of PTI.
The supporters of the PTI launched misleading propaganda against senior judges. Similar drive was also launched against the army when the PTI chief was arrested last year.
The supporters of the PTI have been habitual of running similar campaigns against leaders of rival political parties, especially the PML-N, PPP and the JUI-F.
Observers have for long been calling for regulations to keep some types of checks on social media users. Most of those behind these campaigns are said to be operating from abroad that skip action under by the Pakistani laws.
