The scheme provides fuel subsidies to owners of motorcycles, rickshaws and vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc, with the aim of providing relief to low- and middle-income groups amid rising petroleum prices.
During a review meeting, the prime minister was briefed that more than 8.4 million people had registered for the scheme, while over 7.5 million had received benefits.
Officials said 12.2 million fuel subsidy tokens had been issued since the launch of the programme, of which 10.3 million had been used.
Prime Minister Shehbaz praised the performance of the government team involved in implementing the scheme, describing it as an example of coordinated efforts by federal and provincial authorities.
He said the database developed through the fuel subsidy programme would also be used in the future to provide assistance to citizens.
The briefing noted that the scheme is currently operational in 129 districts across Pakistan, with all petrol stations facilitating eligible citizens under the programme.
The prime minister reiterated the government’s commitment to providing relief to low-income and middle-class citizens in the face of rising fuel prices.
