PESHAWAR: Protesters blocked Pak-Afghan highway for several hours on Saturday disrupting traffic, officials said.
Meanwhile, a court took notice on request of lawyers of Khyber Bar Association against blocking of Pakistan-Afghan highway in Landi Kotal and ordered the SHO to take action by filing FIR against those blocking the road. Lawyers sources said the son of former police officer late Mehboob Ali alias Babali, a resident of Malik Gul Ahmed area of Tehsil Landi Kotal of Khyber district, had not been given a job in place of his late father according to tribal traditions. As a result, he started a protest along with other people of the area.
They said The Pak-Afghan highway was closed for all kinds of traffic during which there were long queues of heavy and light vehicles on the highway and passengers were also stranded.
The lawyers said the Pak-Afghan highway was closed and the common citizens were facing trouble. Therefore, action should be taken against the protesters and the highway should be opened for traffic.
Moreover, an FIR should be filed against those blocking the highway, and also the accused should be arrested and produced in the court, after which the highway was opened for normal traffic.
