BEIJING: China has called on Pakistan and Afghanistan to resolve recent tensions through dialogue and consultation, emphasizing the need for de-escalation and joint efforts to uphold regional peace and stability.

During a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks while responding to a question about the exchange of fire between Afghan and Pakistani forces on Dec. 5.

He noted that Pakistan and Afghanistan are both long-standing friendly neighbours of China, and neighbours that “cannot move away from each other.”

Guo said China stands ready to work with the international community to continue playing a constructive role in improving and developing relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, reaffirming Beijing’s commitment to supporting regional harmony and cooperation.
