Pakistan, Bangladesh to start direct flights on Karachi-Dhaka route

ISLAMABAD: Following the ouster of Hasina Wajid from the slot of prime minister in a students protest last year relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh have seen an unprecedented warmth.

After an increase in bilateral trade with lifting of restrictions on Pakistani goods by Bangladesh, now Pakistani and Bangladeshi private airlines are planning to start direct flights on the Karachi-Dhaka route.

According to sources, both countries have agreed to the launching of theĀ  direct flights. The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh has given permission in this regard as well.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism of Bangladesh Abdul Nasir Khan said that he was given a proposal by Pakistan’s private airline for flights on the Dhaka-Karachi route, which has been approved and an agreement with the airline for flights is expected soon.

Khan said that Bangladeshi patients have started traveling to Pakistan for treatment, which is further promoting people-to-people contacts. Moreover, both the countries are working to facilitate the respective airlines to start contact as soon as possible.

He further said that a private airline of Bangladesh is also planning to start flights from Dhaka to Karachi.
