ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China have reaffirmed their commitment to continue close cooperation in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran, aiming to reduce tensions and promote lasting peace in the region.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. During the call, Dar congratulated Wang Yi on the 105th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of China.
Both leaders discussed the ongoing Iran-US peace process, particularly the first round of high-level talks held in the Swiss city of Bürgenstock under the mediation of Pakistan and Qatar.
Ishaq Dar informed his Chinese counterpart that, following the talks, a high-level committee had been established under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding to oversee the mediation process. He further noted that three working groups had been formed to address key issues, including the nuclear matter, sanctions, and monitoring and dispute resolution, with the aim of reaching a final agreement within 60 days.
Dar appreciated China’s consistent and strong support for the peace process and emphasized the significance of President Xi Jinping’s four-point peace plan as well as the Pakistan-China five-point initiative.
Wang Yi congratulated Pakistan on the successful facilitation of the talks and the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. He also praised Pakistan’s active diplomatic efforts, constructive mediation, and continued engagement for regional peace and stability.
Reaffirming China’s unwavering support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts, Wang Yi stressed that peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with the United Nations Charter is essential.
Both leaders agreed to maintain close coordination to support dialogue between the parties, ensure de-escalation, and promote sustainable peace, shared development, and mutual prosperity.
