All three candidates supported by Pakistan were elected to the three available director positions on the ACC Board during the council’s annual general meeting in Bangkok.

The Pakistan-backed panel, led by ACC President Mohsin Naqvi, included representatives from Qatar, Singapore and the Maldives. According to sources, all three candidates emerged victorious after a competitive election, while the India-backed panel suffered defeat.

It is reportedly the first time since the establishment of the ACC that a Pakistan-backed panel has won all three available seats.

India was represented at the meeting by Rajeev Shukla. The outcome has been described by sources as a significant achievement for Mohsin Naqvi and an indication of Pakistan’s growing influence within the regional cricket body.

The annual general meeting also discussed preparations for next year’s Asia Cup in Bangladesh. Sylhet, Mirpur and Chattogram have been proposed as venues for the tournament.

The ACC’s annual budget was also discussed, while preparations and arrangements for the Women’s Asia Cup in Dubai were reviewed during the meeting.
