PARIS: Pakistan was elected as vice chair of the UN children’s emergency fund, the UNESCO, for the 2023-2025 term at the executive board’s elections held in the French capital on Friday.
Pakistan bagged 38 votes against just 28 of India in the 58-member executive board.
In a statement issued from the Foreign Office in Islamabad, spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch congratulated the Pakistani officials and thanked the members of the executive board for their support and the trust in Pakistan’s candidature.
“Pakistan would carry out its responsibilities with a deep sense of commitment, credibility, honest dialogue and mutual respect,” said the statement.
It added, “As an ardent supporter of multilateralism, Pakistan will work together with UNESCO member states to mobilize collective efforts to promote common objectives.”
