Pakistan Denies Involvement of Its Citizens in Ukraine-Russia War

Foreign Office says Ukrainian president has provided “no credible evidence” to support the allegation.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday rejected as “baseless” a claim by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that Pakistani nationals are among foreign fighters supporting Russia in its war against Ukraine.

In a statement, the Foreign Office said Kyiv has provided “no credible evidence” to support the allegation, nor has it formally notified Islamabad on the matter.

“The Government of Pakistan will seek clarification from Ukrainian authorities,” the spokesperson said, adding that Pakistan “remains committed to a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict through dialogue and diplomacy, in accordance with the principles of the United Nations.”

Zelensky, in remarks on Monday, alleged that combatants from several countries, including Pakistan and China, are fighting alongside Russian forces against Ukraine.
