ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has been elected as the chairman of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Council of Ministers for the term 2026-27.
The election took place during the 29th ECO Foreign Ministers’ Council meeting, which was held today. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar led the Pakistani delegation at the meeting.
According to Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi, the foreign ministers of the member countries extended their congratulations to Pakistan for being elected to the chairmanship. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the member countries for their support and congratulations.
The spokesperson further confirmed that the next ECO Foreign Ministers’ Council meeting is scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan in 2026. This will provide an opportunity for Pakistan to further strengthen its role within the organization and promote regional cooperation.
ECO is an intergovernmental organization that aims to foster economic, technical and cultural cooperation among its member states.
