WASHINGTON: White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt has confirmed that Pakistan has formally nominated former U.S. President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.
Speaking at a briefing, Leavitt said Pakistan’s move acknowledges President Trump’s decisive diplomatic efforts to help avert a potential nuclear conflict between Pakistan and India.
Earlier, the Government of Pakistan announced it would recommend Trump for the prize in recognition of his role during the recent Pakistan-India crisis. A formal letter of nomination was sent to the Nobel Committee in Norway.
Separately, a Republican member of the U.S. Congress also nominated Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his role in helping broker a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
Trump himself has previously said he deserves a Nobel Prize for helping stop war between India and Pakistan but claimed that “the Nobel Prize only goes to liberals—they won’t give it to me.”
