Addressing a ceremony titled “Blockchain and Tokenized Future: Sovereign Choice and Safeguards for Next-Generation Digital Public Infrastructure” on United Nations Digital Cooperation Day 2026, the finance minister said Pakistan was moving toward a formal regulatory framework for virtual assets.
Aurangzeb said tokenization should be aligned with real economic needs, including lower-cost remittances, financial support for small and medium-sized enterprises, sovereign debt and broader financial inclusion.
He said innovation in the private sector should be supported through strong state safeguards, inclusive digital infrastructure and international cooperation.
The finance minister also stressed the need for emerging economies to be fully involved in shaping global standards, saying their participation was essential in developing frameworks for the rapidly evolving digital economy.
